Prof. Dr. Thomas Schmitt, Heidelberg Center for Cultural Heritage
Thomas Schmitt is Professor for Cultural Heritage and the Protection of Cultural Property at the Heidelberg Center for Cultural Heritage (HCCH), which promotes the sustainable integration and long-term expansion of Heidelberg University’s existing competencies in the field of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Prof. Thomas Schmitt’s research focuses, among other topics, on the UNESCO World Heritage System. Based on qualitative social science research, he has reconstructed fundamental structures and negotiation mechanisms, governance, in the interaction of globally acting, national and local actors.

PD Dr. Carsten Wergin, Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS)
Carsten Wergin is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS), which promotes an interdisciplinary dialogue with a focus on the dynamics of global transcultural processes. His work on the field of anthropology deals with heritage, culture and ecology, while at the same time focusing on the regions of Australia, the Indian Ocean, islands and beaches of the European Ultraperiphery. Carsten Wergin’s research focuses on tourism, sustainable development and heritage preservation.

Prof. Dr. Patricia Murrieta Flores, Lancaster University
Patricia Murrieta Flores is the Co-Director of the Digital Humanities Hub at Lancaster University. Her main field of interest lies in the application of technologies for Humanities from an interdisciplinary perspective. Patricia’s primary research area is the Spatial Humanities. She focuses on the investigation of different aspects of space, place and time using a wide range of technologies.

Jun.-Prof. Dr. Rosa Lehmann, Heidelberg University
Rosa Lehmann studies the social dimension of the transition from a fossil fuel economy to a sustainable society and economy that is based on renewable resources. Her scientific research integrates an interdisciplinary perspective and is concentrated in the field of political ecology. Rosa Lehmann focuses on the social impacts and challenges of the energy transition and the transition to a bio-economy. The regional focus of her work is Ibero-America, particularly Latin America and Mexico.

Prof. Dr. Renata Motta, Heidelberg University
Renata Campos Motta is professor for “Society, Culture, And Communication In Ibero-America” at the Heidelberg Center for Ibero-America Studies (HCIAS). She is a sociologist and integrates an interdisciplinary approach into her research activities. Her research is focused on the political sociology of Latin America. She draws on relational approaches to mobilization and demobilization in social movement studies, in addition to multiscale analytical frameworks. As part of her research, she embeds national units of into intra-, inter-, and transregional dynamics.

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Francisco Moreno-Fernández, Heidelberg University
Francisco Moreno-Fernández is a Humboldt-Professor for Ibero-American linguistic, cultural, and social studies at the Heidelberg Center for Ibero-America Studies (HCIAS). As part of his research, Francisco Moreno-Fernández’s analyses the intersection between language and society. Throughout his academic career, he has contributed to a vast number of international research projects with interdisciplinary perspectives. At Heidelberg University, he is currently directing the development of a transversal research program in Ibero-American Studies about the topic “Spaces and Dynamics”. In addition to the mentioned project, he is interested in the analysis of socio- and geolinguistic phenomena of the Spanish language both in Europe as well as in the Americas.

Dr. Héctor Álvarez Mella, Heidelberg University
Héctor Álvarez Mella’s research focuses on the cultural and social-scientific analysis of multilingualism, education, internationalization, as well as of interculturality. He examines the social and demographic dynamics of Spanish as a migratory language in Europe through the use of both quantitative and qualitative research methods, shedding a light on the factors that influence the intergenerational transmission of the heritage language in Spanish-speaking families. From the perspective of sociology and cultural studies, Dr. Álvarez Mella also explores the processes of economic and cultural exchange within the Spanish-speaking world.

Maria Trombini is a post-doctoral reaserch assocate at the Max-Weber-Institute of Sociology of Heidelberg University. Her reaserch focuses on organisational crime and corruption in Brazil, and is also an active member of research projects studying rule deviations and preventive action constellations.

Markus Pohlman is professor for Organizational Studies at the Max-Weber-Institute of Sociology of Heidelberg University. As part of his research, he deals with the theoretical analysis and empirical research of organisations. He considers both their forms, structures and internal processes as well as their interaction with society. In addition to this, he studies the dynamics of change in capitalism in international comparison, organisation and management, as well as organisational deviance.
